Rongopai Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Sauvignon Blanc

Adam Hazeldine

Recommended Food:
It works well with a white meat dish. Great with oysters or a green salad.

Recommended Cellaring:
Best enjoyed while young.

Production Notes:
After harvest the grapes were quickly crushed and pressed into stainless steel tanks where the juice was fermented at controlled cool temperatures to capture the intense varietal flavours.  The wine was then blended and bottled.

Tasting Notes:
This wine displays apple / melon layered with sweet grass and mineral notes. The palate is fruit driven, displaying again refreshing apple and melon joined by subtle spiced notes. There is a nice juicy weight to this wine with a fine structure and a pleasantly long spicy finish.

"Good, honest NZ savvy with juicy, vibrant peach flavours, clean fresh acidity, good palate weight and a dry, persistent finish. Fantastic value.

"Rongopai is a long-established wine brand, originally based at Te Kauwhata, now controlled by Babich. This easy-drinking wine is fleshy, herbaceous and well-rounded, with more flavour than you’d expect for $12."

"It's fresh and gentle on the nose displaying citrus, passionfruit and herbaceous characters. The palate is fruity and smooth with refreshing acidity and a clean dry finish. A softly flavoured Sauvignon with an easy-going palate.", Sam Kim, 2010

"Citrusy and herbaceous, mid-weight style with decent depth of flavour, fresh and lively. Sharply priced."
