Rongopai Marlborough Riesling 2013
An excellent partner to a wide range of foods, ideal with Asian dishes, or try it with mussel and kumara patties, drizzled with home-made lime-spiked mayonnaise.
These grapes were harvested at low Brix. The free run juice was fermented separately in stainless steel tanks to retain aromatic varietal character, with various different yeasts and at different temperatures. The ferments were stopped before completion to retain the level of natural sweetness that perfectly balances the acidity.
The nose is lifted with orange and lime blossom and layered with mineral notes. The palate is finely focused and varietal, again with orange blossom, mineral/slate. Juicy with a dry finish.
"A lovely off-dry style, the bouquet shows lemon curd, stone fruit and floral characters with subtle toasty complexity. The palate is light yet flavoursome, beautifully enhanced by subtle sweetness and vibrant acidity. The wine is showing some bottle matured notes, making it a fabulous drink now."
