Rongopai Marlborough Pinot Gris 2010

Grapes:
100% Pinot Gris

Region:
Marlborough

Winemaker:
Adam Hazeldine

Recommended Food:
Works well with snapper fillets, rolled in fresh breadcrumbs and shallow fried, or with hot baked ham and glazed kumara.

Recommended Cellaring:
0-4 years

Production Notes:
Parcels of ripe grapes were harvested from several of our vineyards in Marlborough. The vineyards with heavier soils add weight to the wine, where the lighter soils bring varietal aromatics. A large percentage of juice was fermented in tank at various temperatures and with various yeast to capture varietal character and build interest. The balance was fermented in old French oak and lees stirred to increase the body and complexity of the wine.

Tasting Notes:
The sweet, lifted aroma of proving bread appeals on the nose along with pleasant notes of white stone fruit, with spice and citrus adding to this sensory delight. Sweet pastry and spicy pear tart emerge out of the succulent and sweetly fruited palate. Generous mineral flavours compliment the rich and full weight. Ginger and lemon zest add a pleasing zing to the finish.

Reviews:
"This is fruit-forward and approachable, showing lifted aromas of stonefruit, golden apple and citrus. The palate is ripe and broad with gentle sweetness and an appealing crisp finish. A well priced and comforting Pinot Gris with a smooth mouthfeel."

"Advance colour for its age. Melon and grapefruit fragrance on the nose. Some pear and blossom fruit; shows focus. Clean and fresh with oily texture."
-WineNZ Magazine, Spring 2011

"The 2010 vintage is a top buy. Sturdy (14.5 per cent alcohol), it is fresh and vibrantly fruity, with ripe, peachy, spicy flavours, hints of apricot and ginger, and very good depth. It’s drinking well now."
