Rongopai Hawke’s Bay Merlot Cabernet 2014

Grapes:
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon

Region:
Hawke’s Bay - Gimblett Gravels

Winemaker:
Adam Hazeldine

Recommended Food:
Enjoy it with a whole scotch fillet ideally cooked on the bbq. Also would make a good partner for ratatouille.

Recommended Cellaring:
2-4 years

Production Notes:
Parcels of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon were harvested at optimum ripeness. The grapes were fermented in stainless steel tank with frequent pump-overs and plungings to ensure good colour and tannin extraction. The blend was assembled in late 2012 and spent a further six months in oak prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes:
Aromas of black and red currants. Light-medium bodied. Flavours of redcurrants and blackcurrant combined with herb and oak spice. Good balance.

Reviews:
"It is beautifully fruited and inviting on the nose showing dark plum, blueberry, game and dried herb characters with a touch of roasted nuts. The palate is medium-full and succulent, and displays lovely juicy fruit flavours and smooth texture, nicely structured by chalky tannins. For the price, this is hard to beat.
